Take Away The Work Improve Your Email Copy's Performance

By Tina Beck

There has been a particular piece of advice about online marketing that has been floating around for many years. The fact is that it isn't seen as much as it used to be and we're pretty sure that most businesses are unaware of it. It isn't ever a good idea to make your visitors work for things when you're online. Yeah, that sounds pretty lame but it is still true. This principle applies to almost every market but obviously not to those markets that are the most highly skilled or educated. The reader is more likely to get turned off when he starts to feel like too much effort is required of him.

If you are not connecting well with your subscribers, then you need to ask if you have done all your homework. You can get all your answers to your questions from your target audience. There is a person who finally cracked the code with how to communicate to her list of email subscribers. Since there is a lot of misinformation in her niche, she always has to clarify everything to people. Since she is dealing with investments, there is a lot to talk about and explain. But after years of emailing to them, her long-winded emails work very well.

Look at your niche, and then decide if you should take it easy in the beginning with the tone of your dialogue. There is an ice-breaking and getting-to-know period that is part of normal interactions. Rather than sitting down and putting your feet up, be a little more conservative depending on your audience. Be sure to thank them for subscribing, and then recap what they can expect from you in future emails. Plus they will like that you took the time to tell them you are grateful for their subscription.

Let's talk about proofreading because it is one thing that can really help your copy quite a lot more powerful. People might glance through their email copy when it's finished or even run it through the spell checker but that is not the same thing as some effective proofreading. Take your time and read it very carefully and make sure your words are correct in their usage. Look for words you can change and insert a more powerful or more accurate word or phrase. We guarantee that you will be able to improve the efficacy of every piece of copy you compose when you use this particular proofreading approach.

We have talked about the need to know how you should structure your email copy, and that knowledge comes from knowing your subscribers. All of this is not hard to do, but you have to prepare and due some research to gain the right knowledge. Your emails only become more effective when you communicate in the right way to your market. If you are new, then it is so important that you learn as much as you can, but balance that with taking action. Learn something about copywriting because that is part of what you will be writing.
