Social Media Networking And The End Of 3D TV

By Rob Sutter

Television and 3D was, at least in the eyes of some, a match made in heaven. It almost seemed like a wave of the future, especially when technology can only grow from this point onward. With the recent news that the plug on 3D TV has been pulled, I cannot help but feel like my suspicions of it being a passing gimmick are becoming more and more realized. I am sure that those in the field of social media networking would be able to agree with me on the matter, too.

The BBC has recently made the announcement that it would be cancelling its 3D programming, which has to be a devastating blow to those who thought that this would be the wave of the future. If you were to ask me, though, I cannot help but think that this has shown just how much of a novelty it was. Yes, it's fun for a lark and I am sure that some will get more of a kick out of it than others. However, to call it a way of the future would be nothing short of a lie.

The Nintendo 3DS is another example of a device which has utilized the feature of 3D. However, with glasses-free technology, it has become much more of a successful handheld nowadays than it has ever been in the past. That being said, I still find myself playing games seriously without the 3D on. It might be fun to look at but it seems like it has done more to hamper more heated experiences in gaming than help them, since my focus has not been quite as solid.

One cannot deny that people are slowly caring less about the concept of 3D and for good reasons. It hasn't become something that is integral to one's overall sense of enjoyment, which is what those in social media networking can support. It may be fun to look at, which I'm sure some would agree with. However, I believe that firms along the lines of fishbat can see just how meaningless it is in the long run and that it will only remain a novelty without breaking through much further.

You may be led to believe that I simply do not like 3D at all but I do see the value behind it. There is always going to be that group of people that has never experienced 3D technology before, no matter if you're talking about what they see on screen or within gaming experiences. However, it's not needed to fully enjoy what you're being supplied. It's meant to enhance it and I can only correlate the term "novelty" to it more than just about any other.
