Making Money Online 101: Why Building Back-links To Your Website Is A Must

By Greg C Nunan

The easiest method to explain the significance of backlinks in the pursuit of a successful site is to consider inbound links going into a website as if they're a popularity vote. It makes sense that other sites will only back link to your website in the event it contains a whole lot information. A large number of external sites linking to your own can be an sign to Google that those external sites consider the content of your internet site to be very valuable (they would not link to it if it weren't). It's just like all those external websites are voting for your own in a popularity competition.

In ranking websites and placing them within their search engine rankings, Google takes into account many different factors when making a decision which websites get on page one, with inbound links (votes) being a significant factor in that decision.

In saying this, Google have developed their criteria to the level that they are fairly effective in picking up websites appear to have manufactured 'votes' (back links) unnaturally, as compared with those that have generically done so.

Which factors does Google consider significant with regards to links?

Factor number 1: The Anchor Text of the link. If the site is focussed on scrap booking designs, then developing a fair volume of back links with anchor-text that is 'scrap booking designs' will assist you to rank well in Google.

2. The relevance of the back links. Making use of the scrapbook designs example again, links which are from internet sites about art, hobbies and scrapping will be more valuable than inbound links from sports sites, computer system sites or sites about jelly wrestling.

3. Popularity of the linking site. When a high-quality, better established site is linking to your website, then that 'vote' contains more importance when compared to a website link from a site which is fairly new.

Your main aim is to build a website which has high quality articles and overall information that naturally prompts other web owners to hyperlink to it. As this happens over time, you are recognized with natural 'authority' for your given niche market in the eyes of Google. Google wants to see a natural progression of links.

The problem with linking 'naturally' is it will take a long time and even while it's great in theory, the fact is that you need to take measures to diminish the time it takes to build that authority. The way to do that is via building backlinks.
